Javier Castro is the President and CEO of the Company. During the interview with Juarez El Paso NOW, he told us: “Bazz Houston’s highly qualified in-house engineering staff can assist customers from original concept through prototype development to final production. This continuity helps to ensure the highest quality product at the best possible price.”
All of Bazz Houston’s products are made to precise customer specifications. “Bazz Houston”, explained Mr. Castro, “…offers a wide range of precision springs (compression, extension, torsion, wire and flat strip), as well as stamping related processes, including metal stamping with progressive dies, on site tooling design and construction of class A dies, four-slide technology, conventional and CNC wire forming, as well as assembly.”
Javier Castro also mentioned that Bazz Houston offers a full range of Maquila Services at their Tijuana plant. This includes the following: Warehousing; Kan Ban; virtual transfer; vendor managed inventory; and electronic data interchange.
The highest quality control is offered by Bazz Houston because they use Statistical Process Control (SPC). SPC is used during the manufacturing process for every part produced by Bazz Houston in both Garden Grove and Tijuana facilities. This process checks the quality of the manufacturing process as it is happening, versus doing inspection after the parts are completed. This enables them to control the quality of parts throughout the run.
Bazz Houston’s excellence in giving engineering support is one of the Company’s major strengths. “Many of our customers” Mr. Castro reports, “work in tandem with our Engineering Department on issues concerning integrity of design, type of tooling required, and materials analysis to facilitate the lowest possible cost”.
Bazz Houston has recently completed a major modernization of its tooling, prototype and short-run capabilities. “Our tool room is equipped with two (2) brand new state of the art EDM machines, several new surface grinders and Mills,” Mr. Castro explained. “This new equipment in conjunction with the existing equipment allows Bazz Houston to produce standardized tooling for customer specifications within a three to five week span,” he explained and “under certain circumstances this time frame may be reduced”.
At Bazz Houston Co. Prototypes can be manufactured cost-effectively & efficiently. The process used by Bazz Houston, “soft tooling”, allows a customer to modify a part easily. These “soft tools” are cost effective compared to the average cost of a progressive die and our customer then has a “tool-off” functional part in a very short time thus eliminating costly functional mistakes.
Of course things have changed in the last 47 years. Many companies and entire industries have come and gone, but the business environment remains as competitive as ever. This is especially true with the advent of numerically controlled machines for wire and strip, making it even more so,” according to Javier Castro.
Bazz Houston Co. opened their first plant in Mexico in 2004 in the Otay Mesa / Tijuana Region. Mr. Castro explained that the Company chose this region for several reasons. “First,” he said, “it is within 2-hours driving distance of the Bazz Houston facility in Garden Gove, California. Several key customers were already located in that area and many of these same customers had been talking to Bazz Houston about setting-up a plant south of the border in order to better service their needs. Perhaps even more importantly research had shown that this part of Mexico was home to a large and growing pool of potential customers, which Bazz Houston was eager to develop. So far, this expansion into Mexico has been a very positive experience for Bazz Houston, culminating in the acquisition of Connor Manufacturing Services de Mexico in 2007 and the subsequent support of their customers in the area.
“We service a broad range of industries” explained the President and CEO of Bazz Houston, including: Aerospace; Automotive; Defense; Electronics; Hardware; Irrigation; Medical Equipment and Devices & Telecommunications. The company produces parts for major corporations from all over the U.S.A., Mexico and even some European countries.
The year 2009 will undoubtedly be one of the most challenging and difficult years in decades according to Javier Castro. He said: “This will certainly put enormous pressure on companies as they try to grapple with the new reality of lower consumer spending.”
“Bazz Houston,” according to CEO Castro, “is confident that it will be able to survive and even flourish in the coming year. With two manufacturing plants,” he explains, “our strong Engineering Department, rigorous quality control systems, broad range of manufacturing capabilities and with the diversity of industries served, Bazz Houston will be looking to expand its customer base in 2009.”
